UI, LASU, UNILAG, Others Make 2021 Emerging Economies University Rankings List

The University of Ibadan (UI), Lagos State University (LASU) and the University of Lagos (UNILAG) made the list of 2021 Emerging Economies University Rankings released by The Times Higher Education (THE) on Tuesday.

According to the ranking, UI came first in Nigeria followed by LASU and UNILAG in the second and third places, respectively.

Other Nigerian universities listed by THE, the global University ranking organization are Covenant University, Ota (4th), University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), Nsukka, Enugu (5th) and Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife (6th).

According to The Times Higher Education (THE) UI led the list of Universities in Nigeria in the 111th position with 34.3 overall marks. It was followed by LASU occupying the 155th position with 31.4 percent while UNILAG came third in the 172nd place with a 30.5 per cent overall score.

The ranking showed that of the six Nigerian universities listed in THE 2021 Emerging Economies University Rankings UI and UNN scored 1 percent in International students enrolment, while LASU, UNILAG, CU, and OAU had no record of students enrolment in this category.

An exploration of the rankings data showed that LASU led the pack under citations with 93.7, UI 88.5, UNILAG 81.1 Covenant 51, UNN 22.1 and OAU 13.7 percent.

However, Covenant University led the industry income table with 45.7 percent followed by OAU 36.3, UNILAG 34.5, LASU 33.4, UNN 34.2, and UI 34 percent.

Besides, Covenant University also led the Research table with 18.4 percent. UI came second with 12.2, UNILAG 9.6, OAU 9.3, UNN 8.9 and LASU with 7.5 percent.

In the global ranking, the University of Oxford, United Kingdom (UK) led the pack scoring 95.6 overall mark.

University Oxford with evidence of teaching as early as 1096 and regarded as the oldest university in the English-speaking world scored 91.3 in teaching, 99.6 research, 98 in citations, 68.7 in industry income and 96.6 in international outlook.

Stanford University, United States of America (USA) came second with 94.9 overall scores.
