THE POLYTECHNIC OJOKU STUDENTS HOLD AWARENESS TREK IN OFFA

The Polytechnic Ojoku holds awareness trek

The Polytechnic Ojoku, Kwara State, on Monday, held an awareness walk in Offa.

The students were seen holding different flyers as well as dancing to a variety of hip hop songs by the disc jockey (DJ).

They kickstarted the walk from the take-off campus located in Ilemona. The students visited Ololami hospital junction, Orita Merin Junction, Popo Road before moving to the king’s palace, “Aganju Olofa of Offa”. They also reached eleven crossing before entering Owode market.

The Rector speaks

The Rector of the Polytechnic, Mr Salaudeen Ajibola Oyewale appreciated the students while advising them to also take their academic activities very serious.

“In as much as I encourage social activities, I want to reiterate the fact that academics matters a lot and I encourage students to buckle up,” he said.

Oyewale also thanked the organizers for the job and enjoined the students to be good ambassadors of the institution.

Also, the Director of Students’ Affairs Unit, Mr. Abdulganiyu Ibrahim applauded the management and the students of the institution for the insightful initiative.

In his words, “In all honesty, the management did not expect the energy. The students were insightful and exuberant enough to take the walk to the fore. They brought the whole awareness into fruition. We, as the management felt encouraged. We are happy, so are they.”

He continued that the students also saw trek as an exercise of sort.

“They feel we should do it every year. When we got to the market, we met Iyaloja of Offa and Babaloja of Offa. They prayed for them.”

Ibrahim afterwards appreciated operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) for provision of security throughout the walk. Ibrahim also appreciated the efforts of the Rector of the institution, Mr Salaudeen Ajibola.

The awareness walk was graced by some of the staff of the institution, such as Miss Zainab Sulaiman, the Social Manager of the institution; Mr Hammed J. Sulaiman, Public Relations Officer; Mr Ibrahim Mubarak, the Director of SIWES Placement; Mr Abdulsalam Olaide, Ag. Registrar; Mr Bello Idris, Director of Works; Mr Abdulganiyu Ibrahim, the Director of Student Affairs Unit among others.

The awareness trek is one of the social activities organised for the students according to the PR unit of the institution, while maintaining that the institution is student-inclusive.

According to Mr Hammed, he said “I was very proud of the ND II students and I believe it will serve as a roadmap for this coming ND I students.”
