ASUU strike: Buhari govt to be dragged to court

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, on Friday threatened to sue President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration over the lingering strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.SERAP said it is suing the Buhari administration for refusing to end the ongoing ASUU strike.

The body said the refusal of the Federal Government to end the strike was a violation of the legal obligation to provide access to higher education for Nigerians.

In a series of tweets, SERAP wrote: “BREAKING: We’re suing the Buhari administration over its failure to end the strike action by ASUU, which is a violation of the legal obligation to provide access to higher education without discrimination.

We’re suing the Buhari administration because of its failure to end the strike action by ASUU and allow Nigerian children get back to school violates the right of poor children to higher education, equality and non-discrimination, human dignity, and penalises poor parents.

”ASUU embarked on a one-month warning strike on February 14th and extended it by another two months over the alleged failure of the government to fulfil its agreements.

Since then, students have been at home waiting for the strike to be called off.
