The leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU on Tuesday, 28th of February, 2023 made it position known to Nigerians on the ongoing 2023 Presidential collation of results, if it’s a hitch free and fare election.The leadership of the Union, when addressing the public said the union is paying keen attention and observing the ongoing 2023 Presidential collation of results from different regions of the country to determine the person to paddle the affairs of the country for the next four or eight years.
LEGITSCHOOLGIST gathered that, the Chairman of the Union, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke reveal in an interview with THISDAY that, it’s premature and unprofessional to say anything as regards to assess the just concluded Presidential election results and performance of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC now, since the collation of the results is still ongoing.
Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke said, we will allowed the Electoral Commission, INEC to conclude the election before make its position know to Nigerians on the conduction of the election.
He said, I will make my position know to the general public when the results is concluded, but right now, the collation of the results is still ongoing at the National Collation Centre in Abuja, and we are watching and following the release of results live. So I can only comment when I have concrete and documented evidence on the outcome of the results.
When the results has been concluded and announced to the public, I will state my position on the election, He said.
Am not INEC official, am also a citizen like like you, i also casted my vote for my preferred candidate on Saturday, but it took unnecessary long time for me to cast my vote at my polling unit that day, he speak on his experience at the poll on last Saturday election.
Speaking on the Nigeria Labour of Congress, NLC position on the ongoing collation of the ongoing results, the Congress condemned the alleged conclusion by some staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC with dubious politicians to compromise the electoral process.
NLC which threaten to mobilize it members and allies to resist any attempt to subvert the mandate will of the good people of Nigeria.
Recall, yesterday the agents of major opposition parties at the national collation centre in Abuja walked out of the venue in protest at the exercise as the collation of the presidential election is still ongoing.
*Sen. Dino Melaye and Emeka Ihedioha of the People Democratic Party, PDP had accused Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC of violating the Electoral Act by going ahead with the result collation and announcement despite not uploading the results on the iREV portal.
Agents of some other parties also join the motion raised by the two agents of opposition party, PDP, including those of the Labour Party, Social Democratic Party, SDP, and African Democratic Party, ADP had expressed similar views.
The aggrieved agents all walked out of the venue yesterday, and this has caused tension in the country, which can also leads to crisis if not we’ll address.
We await, the final results from the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC after the collation of the results, then the union will make its stand know to Nigerians on the election. He said.
