The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, today suspended its nine-month strike action begun on the 23rd of March, 2020, to demand implementation of the various agreements reached with the Union by the Federal Government. The suspension followed the meeting between the Federal Government and ASUU on Tuesday 22nd December, 2020.
President of ASUU, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, who announced in a Nationwide broadcast that the strike action was conditionally suspended in national interest, said the academic union accepts areas of agreement between the Federal Government and ASUU would monitor implementation of the agreements, including the 2013 MOA, in all its branches.
Professor Ogunyemi expressed hope that no member of the Union will suffer any loss or disadvantage following their participation in the strike action.
On the COVID-19 pandemic, the Union suggested a meeting of the Federal Government with Vice Chancellors of Unversities to ensure safe and seamless process of resumption by students.
