The management of Osun State University (UNIOSUN) on Monday disclosed that its first set of PhD students would be graduating alongside 2033 students in the 11th convocation slated for 21st September.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof Clement Adebooye, disclosed this at a press conference heralding the 11th convocation at Osogbo’s main campus.
He disclosed that 5 PhD students and 45 students that made first class would be awarded while the former Chairman of Oodua Group of Companies, Dr Segun Aina and the Managing Director of BOVAS Oil and Gas, Dr Victoria Samson, would be conferred with honorary degrees for their contributions to the society.
He stated that a former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof Idowu Olayinka, will deliver the convocation lecture titled: Sustaining a Productive University System in the 21st Century in Nigeria: The Key Elements in the Debate.”
This University is producing the first set of holders of the degree of Doctor of Philosophy, PhD. It is my pleasure to inform you that a total number of 2033 graduands will be conferred with first degrees across the Colleges of the University. Out of these numbers, 45 first class (Honours) degrees will be awarded to those students who have separated themselves from the lot academically.
Also, 561 graduands will be awarded second class (Honours) upper degrees, 1012 made second class (Honours) lower degree, 279 made third class (Honours) degree, while one 01 graduands will be awarded the pass degree,” the VC added.
Prof Adebooye also disclosed that the teaching assistantship programme of the university where first-class graduates are engaged till they finish their MSc and PhD is still on.
Speaking on the efforts to instil discipline in the students, the VC disclosed that six students of the university have been suspended for their involvement in cultism.
