The University of Ibadan (UI) and the University of Lagos (UNILAG) have been ranked among the world’s best universities in sustainability, employment outcomes and international research network
Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), the British company specialising in the analysis of higher education institutions around the world, announced this in its latest ranking for the year 2024.
The annual report, released on Tuesday, featured 1,500 institutions across 104 countries in the world.
UNILAG and UI were the only institutions from Nigeria on the list. They were both ranked #1401+ on the list.
A breakdown of key indicators used for the ranking showed UNILAG scored 7.4 for academic reputation, 5.6 for employer reputation, and 1.5 for international research network.
UI also got 9 for academic reputation, 6.6 for employer reputation, and 8.2 for international research network.
Other indicators used include faculty-to-student ratio, citations per faculty, international faculty ratio, international students ratio, and employment outcomes.
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) snagged the first spot for the 12th year in a row with a perfect score of 100 in all the indicators considered.
Speaking on the list, QS said the latest ranking reflects changing realities in the global educational system.
“Featuring 1,500 institutions – QS World University Rankings 2024 introduces three new indicators to reflect the changing priorities of students and the evolving missions of world-class higher education institutions today: a commitment to sustainability; even greater emphasis on supporting graduate employability and increased international research collaboration to solve the world’s biggest challenges.,” the publication said.
