The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU has accused the government of not being serious with the students’ Education.
According to the reports monitored by TEAM PLATO at Channels Television. The President of ASUU who spoke live at Umuahia and extensively said that there is really nothing that has happened ever since the union embarked on strike. No development from the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Labour and all others. The President said that no single comment made by the Federal Government so far is a clear indication that they are not interested in Education at all. He then itemized some of their yearnings which varied from the fact that ASUU and FG signed an agreement in 2009 which could have better the Nigerian education and allows foreign students and lecturers to patronize the Nigerian Universities.
The President of ASUU made mention of funding of the Universities, Welfare of the staff in the Universities, Autonomy of the system and other broad issues. He said the government then set up committee to inspect all the Universities and come up with a “need assessment”. The report which was headed by Professor Yakubu.
