The Vice-Chancellor of the Lagos state university (LASU),Prof. Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji Bello mni, has said that over 40,000 Applicants applied for admission into the varsity for the 2022/2023 academic session.
In an Interview Program on Traffic fm,96.1fm tagged “Know your Agency” anchored by Victor Oteri, which the VC was the Guest, she stated that the 2022/23 Admission exercise is very competitive to the extent that the University received more than 40,000 subscribers,this birthed the Merit Admission cut off to be on a high side as it ranges from 77%-88%.
She reaffirmed the stance that the University management had concluded the 2022/23 Admission process which rounded off after the Institution admitted not less than 9,000 Students.
The VC further added that Provisional admission offer was allocated to the best Applicants with higher aggregates,followed by the Catchement Applicants (Indigents aspirants) and Political slot in that order.
She also cleared the air regarding DE Admission that the University segmented 10% of Admission slot for all DE students,this incorporates the LASU JUPEB,LASU DIPLOMA students and some other external A’level applicants.
When asked regarding more expectations from the varsity,She mentioned the accreditation of the newly Approved programme such as Pharmacy, Library science, Science Laboratory technology and the like will begin allocation of Admission once it has been okayed by the National Universities Commission (NUC). This will result into the Increase of the Institution’s Admission quota.
On The Varsity being fully Residential,She said that the Modern Ultra Residential village for both genders which will encapsulates more than 8,000 bed spaces,will be ready partially on or before August,2023.
As Regards the Achievement of the University so far,she adduced some notable alumni of the varsity in education spheres around the walks of life and also mentioned Bella Shmurda in Entertainment Industry Aspect.
In addendum, Lagos State University is the best University in west Africa according to UI Green metrics.
“The Lagos state university College of Medicine (LASUCOM) is the best among all other Colleges of Medicine in Nigeria Institutions’ college of medicine.” She said.
On rounding off the Interview Program,The VC commiserates with the Lagos state Government and all Nigerians particularly lagosians on the Lagos Train & Bus crash tragedy which occured on the 9th of March at Ikeja and urged all Lagosians to come out en masse on the 18th of March,2023 to vote for The Governor of Lagos state (B.O.S) for his second tenure as the Government of the state.
