POST UTME CUT OFF MARK AND DEPARTMENTAL CUT OFF MARK, THE DIFFERENCE
The sale of post utme forms are fast approaching and students are clueless on how cut off marks work. The question arises, what is cut off mark?
Cut off marks are bench mark which one attain so as to be considered for admission or post Utme registration. This is to say candidates who do not attain the mark will have the option to either change institution or change to a lower course suitable for such mark.
There are various institutions in Nigeria and definitely their mode of admission differs slightly or greatly. Some institution releases departmental cut off mark while the sale of form is on, others release after the P-Utme exam or screening has been done.
DEPARTMENTAL CUT OFF MARKS
Earlier stated, some institutions will likely release the cut off marks before the sale of form, such as Unilorin, kogi state university, Federal University Oye Ekiti among others. This will give the students who did not reach the cut off mark to change institution or change to related courses.
For institution that releases the departmental cut off mark after the post Utme has been written include Unilag, OAU, UI etc. The institution considers the level of performance before concluding on the departmental cut off marks for each course. Students that doesn’t reach the cut off mark will not be able to change course at this stage but can change to other institution.
POST UTME CUT OFF MARK
This cut off mark is released immediately the sale of form is on. Students who do not meet the cut off mark might not be able to register for the institutions post Utme. Generally, Unilag cut off mark is 200, other institutions like Ui, Oau, Lasu, Eksu have their own cut off marks. This cut off marks precede the departmental cut off mark. For example Unilag post utme cut off mark is 200, after the post Utme has been written having considered the level of performance, the departmental cut off mark will be released.
Note that some institution might release just post utme cut off marks and won’t release the departmental cut off marks and vice Versa.
