I HAVE NO INTEREST IN WHO EMERGES YOUR PRESIDENT, I AM READY TO WORK WITH WHOEVER WINS”, VC TELLS LASUSU ASPIRANTS

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, on Monday, said she has no interest in the elections of the Lagos State University Students Union (LASUSU) beyond ensuring that the process holds in a smooth, free and fair manner. She also assured of her readiness to work with whomever emerges the winner in the general election for president of the union and other offices.

She made the assertions when the acting dean, Students Affairs Division, Dr. Tajudeen Olumoko, led members of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) and aspirants for different offices in the upcoming LASUSU elections, to her office on the 6th floor of the Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, Main Campus, Ojo.

The vice chancellor, while addressing the students, said: “Let me use this medium to dispel any fears that anyone of you might be nursing. I have no interest in any of the candidates or who emerges as your president. My prayer is that may the most popular among you win. Go and test your popularity and let the best candidate emerge. I am reassuring you that we have no special interest or favorite.

I have received security report on the four of you (presidential aspirants) and you are all cleared, meaning I can work with anyone of you. I am ready ready work with whoever wins.”

The meeting, which also had senior members of the university administration in attendance gave opportunity for the IEC led by Abdulrazaq Yusuf and some of the aspirants to engage with the university management to clear all gray areas on the online elections, which are set to hold on Thursday, 28th and Friday, 29th April 2022 and Wednesday, 4th May 2022. The online elections will be managed by the DICT under the leadership of Dr. Toyin Enikuomehin, who was also the ground to provide technical guidance of the modalities of the election.

Following the conversation, all students have been mandated to obtain their ID Cards before the day of the general election on Thursday as it would be used for their accreditation.
